"I'm from Brooklyn"

Last night, after eating cow's tongue, I somehow ended up in Mito, a city about 30 minutes from Hitachi. Fabulous times people...I attended my first hip hop party Japan-styles. Not only did I stick out in this club, but I was also quite entertained by all the Japanese "thugs"...quite an oxymoron I'd say because Japanese people are, for the most part, not thug-like at all. At first, I was slightly worried about what music they'd play, but I was pleasantly surprised! I had a great time dancing.

They also had breaks in between DJ sets where people performed on stage. Some people rapped (haha), some people danced (really well actually) and some people sang (I begged for a free CD from some chicks who were absolutely terrible...sweet). During the second round of performances, some guy comes up to me and says "Hey, how's it goin". I look at him and responded then asked him where he was from. He says "I'm from Brooklyn" with the most obviously fake accent I've ever heard. As it turns out, the guy was born in Japan and only lived in Brooklyn for 2 YEARS! hahaha what a scene. I love Japan.

Hey sweetie, Not sure whether you would consider The Most Serene Republic's music dance music, but their album Underwater Cinematographer is now available in Japan. You should promote it to your students and friends! You never know, the group could be coming out on tour at some point. If you do happen to see it on the shelves in music stores in the different cities you visit in Japan, can you take a camera pic of it and e-mail it to us. I'd love that for his scrap book. Love ya - Auntie Suzanne

Yes I did....I'm terribly sorry for not keeping in better touch. Mono has taken my emailing ability away from me. I'll get better (at both).
